How this site is made

Ruby on Rails, hand-set type, and a Markdown file for every page — each one committed to git, because a page's history should be inspectable. Charts are D3, drawn for each piece. Fonts are self-hosted. No trackers, no third-party requests.

The machines, named

Reports and research on this site are produced with frontier models from Anthropic and OpenAI, working in rounds: the machines research, I curate what survives, and they go again — closer. The research agent has a name, Zoetrope, after the Victorian drum of still pictures that only move when a human spins it. That's not a metaphor I bolted on afterwards; it's the operating principle.

The stamp

Every page here carries a provenance stamp. Signed means a human (me) read and approved these exact bytes, on that date. If I edit a page and forget to re-read it, the stamp says so — publicly. Posts are written by me outright; research is machine-drafted and human-curated; the stamp tells you which is which.

From August 2026 the EU AI Act asks publishers to disclose AI-generated content. This site was built to over-comply by conviction, not by audit.

The human
